Sherry Modell, PhD, MFT

Sherry Modell, PhD, MFT, has devoted her life studying the connections between mental health, physical well-being, meditation, nutrition and nature. Her daily practice led her to a contemporary, holistic approach to mental health. After years of seeing patients struggle to exercise, live in the here-and-now or enjoy nature, she decided to bring these healthy practices to her patients.

Now patients have a choice. They can go to her office for psychodynamic therapy or go to the beach, and learn additional ways to heal by integrating meditation, walking, psychotherapy and simple Hatha yoga exercises.

Dr. Modell has been practicing psychology and studying psychoanalysis for over twenty-five years.  She continues to learn many disciplines including eastern and indigenous methods in order to understand the connection between mental health, physical well-being, the elemental forces of life, science and multi-cultural healing practices.

Along with traditional individual psychotherapy, half her practice consists of couples therapy. She specializes in healing trauma and for over ten years has been a member of the Red Cross Disaster Mental Health Team. Additionally, she has trained marathoners and taught meditation in many settings. Presently, she studies Buddhist meditation training with the Honorable Thich Nhat Hanh, shamanism, yoga, new treatments for trauma and contemporary psychological perspectives.

Individual , couples and small group sessions are available.

Research supports the effectiveness of combining meditation, yoga and psychotherapy in healing trauma and supporting mental health.
